May the Force Be With You": ISB Dedicates a Week to Legality, Security and Active Citizenship

From classroom workshops to field visits with the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian Navy and the Grottaglie Naval Air Base — five days where ISB students explored what it means to be part of a community

International School of Brindisi dedicated the week of 11–15 May 2026 to Legality & Security Week — "May the Force Be With You", a school-wide programme designed to introduce students of every age to the foundations of civic life: rights, responsibilities, and the institutions that protect a community. Across five days, students from Lower Primary to High School took part in workshops, field visits, and dialogues with serving officers, in a programme built around the idea that legality and freedom are not opposites — they depend on each other.

The week combined classroom learning with direct contact with the institutions of the territory. Students engaged with the social contract, rights and duties under the Italian Constitution, and the work of the Guardia di Finanza through a talk by Col. Emilio Fiora and a live canine unit demonstration on campus. A full-day visit to the Grottaglie Naval Air Base introduced students to the operational reality of the Italian Navy's air component, while an afternoon at the Port of Brindisi brought them aboard the patrol vessels of the Italian Navy and the Guardia di Finanza. The week closed with a Final Assembly, where each class presented the projects they had built — short films, posters, civic manifestos, public safety campaigns, and an exhibition titled "The Rules We Live By".

Legality & Security Week reflects ISB's belief that international education must be anchored in the real world. By opening its doors to the institutions that serve Brindisi and Italy, the school gives its students the chance to understand civic life not as an abstract subject but as a network of people, rules, and responsibilities that hold a community together. The school thanks the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian Navy, and the Grottaglie Naval Air Base for the time and care they offered to ISB students throughout the week.
